Presentation of the day

The fifth edition of the Ifremer Doctoral Seminar will take place on October 9, 2025 in Plouzané, bringing together doctoral students, researchers and ocean professionals to explore a theme that affects the scientific community and cross-disciplinary research: "Decarbonization of research activities: from maritime campaigns to laboratories".

Research is often seen as a model for society. It is therefore essential to acknowledge that marine research activities themselves have a significant environmental impact — particularly through high-carbon sampling campaigns and the substantial use of plastic in laboratories. The seminar will open by addressing these challenges and will highlight the initiatives already underway, as well as future perspectives within the Institute to reduce our carbon footprint.

The event will be held in a hybrid format. In-person attendance (limited by room capacity) is strongly encouraged for doctoral students, who will be given priority, but all Ifremer staff are warmly invited to take part. To ensure that anyone who is interested can join, remote participation will also be available.

On the morning of October 10, doctoral students are invited to continue the exchange during a dedicated half-day of interactive workshops, organized by the ERA association (Environment, Resilience, Action).

Are you interested in this topic and want to discuss it? Don't wait any longer and register before September 8, 2025!
